  2.  
  3. Angels soar above the pine woods
  4. and with defoliating eyes
  5. seek heretics in hiding.
  6. Dropping abruptly from the clouds--
  7. talons extended, gold hair streaming--
  8. they pounce upon their sullen prey
  9. and whisk them off to Hell.
  10. En route, they tear off tasty bits
  11. from wriggling arms and legs
  12. (contrary to regulations)
  13. and gulp them down.
  14.  
  15. Retiring to their aerial rosts,
  16. satiated, they recline;
  17. doze for months, or indulge in grand
  18. hermaphroditic couplings.
  19. Beneath the azure of the skies,
  20. the sunlight on their snowy plumes
  21. glows with the peace of Heaven.
